Guidelight

Guidelight is a versatile lamp that you can take wherever you will go. Its friendly and curious character invites you to take it on an adventure. The sphere on top of the product can be rotated, giving it either a functional focused beam when directed forward or a cozy diffuse light when shining downwards. This product was the end result of my graduation project for the Dutch design label Weltevree, the lamp is available at the Weltevree webshop.
Mid-century Cabinet

A cabinet designed for the Portuguese company Delightfull during my internship. The product is currently being produced. It's the first step in a furniture collection matching their lighting portfolio. Pictures will be updated as the production continues.
Delightfull Furniture

Delightfull is a Portuguese company that is specialized in the design and production of unique lamps. Their products fit in the higher exclusive segment, the product range is very diverse and is used for i.a. hotels, interior designers and individuals. As a product design intern at Delightfull I am responsible for designing a new furniture collection. This is an interesting task considering their current focus on lighting design. These months I'm busy creating concepts and making various concepts ready for production.
Kolibri pump

Currently one in five deaths in Bangladesh is caused by excessive consumption of arsenic through the deeper lying ground waters. Every day approximately 100 million Bengal people are exposed to arsenic. Technologies exist to filter arsenic from the water, but these require electro-engines and motorized pumps. The Civil Engineering department required a design for a human powered water pump, capable of membrane filtration. Our goal was to design a human powered RO-pump that enables Bangladeshi people to pump washing water and arsenic free drinking water in two separate streams, while the energy from the concentrate will be used to recover energy to reduce the required power for pumping through the use of an energy recovery system.' A successful and operational prototype was made.
Accelero Bicycle Lighting

For my Bachelor Final Project I designed a new concept bicycle light for the Dutch lighting company Spanninga. The light is mounted on the fender and functions as cyclocomputer as well. The speed is measured and calculated based on the electric pulses from the hub dynamo. Based on the periods of the dynamo the rotations of the wheel, hence the speed, can be displayed. This project was my Bachelor final project and thought me a lot about production techniques, Arduino programming and display techniques.
Vertu Docking Station

This project was performed for the company Formatec, a ceramics company specialized in exclusive design products. To explore the possibilities of the material, a docking station was designed to match with the luxurious Vertu phones. Materialization and production were studied, but also upcoming technologies such as induction charging.
A buddy in the hospital

This concept was designed for the Prinses Maxima Centre for pediatric oncology. The main goal was to take away the anxiety children face when having to go to the hospital; one of the biggest problems among sick children. The kid, being aware of his or her condition, fears the hospital, the doctors and the chemotherapy. This results in refusing to collaborate, difficulties to show emotions and even a slower recovery. To solve this problem the oncologist gives them not only a bear, but also responsibility. The distraction and responsibility gives the children less reason to think about their own surgery. Another important aspect was providing them with information in a playful way, to ensure them they're in a certain process. The course was about persuasion and I learned a lot about the psychological effects in design.
Pasta Packaging

During an elective in my studies we were challenged to improve an existing packaging, my choice was to re-design the spaghetti packaging. The thin foil of the current product provides a poor protection, resulting in a lot of broken spaghetti. The oaf long content is difficult to pour from the package and it can be seen as almost impossible to estimate a correct dosage. After usage their is no easy way to close and store the pasta. Based on these problems a design vision was created and a new design was proposed. As can be seen in the image the spaghetti is better protected and can be easily dosed.
Slidable cabinet

As a DIY-project I made a concept for a customizable cabinet for my room. The three different components can slide over a rails into any desired position. The next step for this project is the construction part; new photos will follow as the cabinet is built.
Accordion Container

Within this project we developed a concept for a new Unit Load Device (ULD) for a company in the air cargo industry. Due to the global imbalance in the flow of cargo, there are more containers required at one end of the world (i.e. Asia) and less at the other end (i.e. America and Europe), there are significant costs for transporting empty ULD containers. The solution suggests a collapsible ULD that is lightweight, easy to handle and with a minimal loss of usable volume. The project was performed with a team of six industrial design master students from three different master courses. The final design was receives with great enthusiasm by the company.
Remote Controlled Sailing Boat

During my minor Sailing Yachts we made a remote controlled sailing boat with a team. The boat had a working canting keel and double rudder. The process of building the ship by hand and actually controlling it afterwards was an amazing experience. To conclude the project a ventilator-powered race was organized in the MARIN, the Maritime Research Institute Netherlands, in Wageningen.
Adjustable

This assignment came from the Japanese social project NexTidEvolution. The company has an inspiring vision, to create a society where people naturally connect to each other, regardless their handicap. Their collaboration with Okamura, an office furniture manufacturer guided to an office related design. Combining personal interest and the Nextide philosophy I created a personal design goal: “Improving the furniture to guide both normal as hearing-impaired employees to a more efficient and pleasant way of collaboration”. The concept created out of this vision can be seen in the video.
Lighting Design

Delightfull is a Portuguese company that is specialized in the design and production of unique lamps. Their products fit in the higher exclusive segment, the product range is very diverse and is used for i.a. hotels, interior designers and individuals. As a product design intern at Delightfull I am responsible for designing a new furniture collection. Besides furniture I also did the design of several lamps, which taught me alot about the iconic design through the ages and lighting aesthetics.
Performance cruiser

As an assignment for the minor Sailing Yachts an entire concept for a performance cruiser was made. The hull and sails were designed with a speed predicting (VPP) program. The weight and centers of mass were estimated and hydrostatic calculations were performed. After dimensioning and positioning the rigging a new velocity prediction was done. The interior of the yacht was designed as well.
